Ascension (Study I)
Archival architectural print, created from a high-resolution scan of an original late-19th-century magic lantern slide.
This image depicts an iron staircase ascending within a cathedral interior — a study in structure, repetition, and upward movement. The original glass slide was produced in Paris by Levy & Cie, successors to Ferrier Père & Soulié, for educational projection in the early 1900s.
I first chose this image five years ago, without knowing what it would become.
Out of dozens of slides, my hand returned to it again — and only now was it translated into print.
This work is about ascension.
Not arrival — the act of rising itself.
Printed with restraint and care to preserve the quiet authority of the original image.
